Getting Started in Canvas as an Observer

Setting up your Observer Account in Canvas is a great way to engage with and support their learning journey in the Wausau School District.

An Internet Browser is necessary for initial account set up:

1. From a browser, go to wausau.instructure.com/login/canvas
   

Set up your Account

1. Click on the upper right hand corner: Parent of a Canvas User? Click Here For an Account
   
2. Complete the account information
   
3. Use the Pairing Code you get from your child’s Canvas account or teacher.
   
4. After setting up your account, you will be taken to your account and you will be able to see all of your child’s information.
   

Internet Browser: wausau.instructure.com/login/canvas

1. If you have additional students, you will need those pairing codes. Once you have those codes, follow these steps:
   
• Click on the Account Icon (top left)
  
• Choose “Observing”
  
• Add Code and hit +Student Icon.
  
• Repeat this step for additional students.
  
2. If you want to have more than one parent to be an OBSERVER of a child’s account, REPEAT steps 1-5. Each account you set up for a child will require a Student Pairing Code. A Student Pairing Code can only be used ONE time and only valid for 7 days (See instructions above if you need a new pairing code).
   

Canvas Parent App:

1. Tap on your learner's name at the top
   
2. Tap on the + to add a new learner
3. Tap Pairing Code at the bottom
4. Enter your learner's Pairing Code
5. Repeat for additional learners

1. Tap "Find School"
2. 3. Type in Wausau School District.
3. Select Wausau School District Parent/Guardian
4. Log in with the username and password you created.
   

Dashboard: View All Courses

Alerts: View Announcements or assignment updates

Calendar: View Course Calendar

Three Lines in Upper Left: Inbox and Manage Students

Log in with your username and password that you created when you set up your account.

This is the same view that your child sees when they log in.

Canvas Parent App:

• "Alerts" for assignments will show up in the app.
• Observers can turn on notifications for announcements.
• Additional notification settings can be changed in the web browser.
  

Internet Browser:

• Observers have many options for receiving, or not receiving notifications from Canvas.
• Select Immediately, Daily, Weekly or Never for each notification option.
• "Push Notifications" will only be available if you also use the Canvas app.
